Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself

If someone feels that they had never made a mistake in their life, then it means they had never tried a new thing in their life.
Don’t compare yourself with anyone in this world. If you do so, you are insulting yourself.

Bon Pchum Ben Day

Pchum Ben Day is considered a major holiday in Cambodia. Markets have big sales from the first day of Bon Kan Ben (There are 14 days for Bon Kan Ben and the 15th day is a very important day, we called Bon Pchum Ben). Everybody gets happier and every Buddhist temples are visited by Buddhists from the first day of Bon Kan Ben to bring food, rice, drink (soft drink), and fruit for the monk in order to dedicate to their ancestors who were died.
From the first day of Bon Kan Ben, somebody gets up in the earlier morning at 3:00 am and goes to Buddhist temple (some Buddhist temples are celebrated the Bos Bay Ben Events “throwing rice”) to celebrate the Bos Bay Ben events and most of them who attend the Bos Bay Ben Events, are adult. In Cambodia, most of Cambodian who are Buddhist believe that when their ancestors, parents, or relatives who were died, maybe their ancestors’ spirit would stay in the hell because they are not sure that when their ancestors had lived, how much sin were committed by those.
In the morning (around 6:30 am), people (mostly older) brings food, rice, (sometimes porridge) for the monk as their breakfast to the different Pagodas according to the location of their residential area. And after that around 9:30 am, people starts bringing food, rice, drink and fruit for the monk again for lunch but the monk does not have lunch immediately, they have to make a sermon for dedication to the person who was died. After sermon, monks can have lunch but not later 12:00.

Markets aim at this “shopping season” for large sales as everyone is purchasing food, cake, drink, and fruit for their parents and relatives.

Pchum Ben Day spirit permeates throughout the country. Starting three or four days before Pchum Ben Day, workers and employees go home on their vacation. And students begin their break. All major transportation systems like Taxis, buses, and motorbikes are all full of people returning to their families. After two or three days, people return to work, feeling refreshed to go about their regular activities.

Reality of Life

Life isn't just full of happiness,It's sunsets, it's love, it's tears. It's the thoughts of yesterdays memories,That can wash away all out fears. It's that very painful experience,That each one of us has had. It's the laughter that fills the air,It's the tears when you are sad. It's loving that someone special,That at one time made you smile. It's the pain of losing that person,But the memories that make it worthwhile. It's that child in every one of us,Although in time we'll all be old. It's the good times we'll never forget,It's the memories we'll always hold. It's the hug that we all need,When we'd rather drown in our sorrow. It's the hope in every one of us,That makes us hold on for tomorrow.

Preah Vihear Temple Issue

Since July 15, 2008, the confrontation between Cambodian-Thai armed force at Preah Vihear has been 14 days and the patience of Cambodia has been practiced during the diplomatic negotiation, which is looking forward for all Cambodian after national election will be finished for the fourth mandate, will be conducted.

However, according to the conversational phone call from Preah Vihear was reported that according to place among Thai armed forces, who was suffering from Malaria, diarrhea and bad smell from inside substance and also realized that the trend of Thai side will not be won on Cambodia, was withdrawn from battle field surrounding Keo SekhaKirisvara Pagoda although the official report has not been confirmed yet during Cambodian armed force has been more being strengthened.

Preah Vihear is a special case if it is not special, Siam (Thailand) will not have tried to invade Cambodia again and again. So we will not allow Siam to invade our territory according to its wish! And Cambodian armed forces will be strengthened more and more through continuous support and encouragement by Cambodian people because Cambodia is our Khmer golden territory.

Preah Vihear has made all Khmer classes, who were not discriminated political trend, united together solidly from everywhere, helped Khmer, loved Khmer and Khmer nation and territory to destroy Thai enemy who has intended to invaded Cambodian territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Preah Vihear has made all Cambodian around the world donated with solidarity for our Cambodian nation such as a broken dike which was destroyed by water.

Preah Vihear, which is a priceless and great treasure and also reminds all Khmer around the world to struggle in a solid way according to the law, was built by Khmer dynasty constructed Angkor Wat temple patriotically and dared to sacrifice flesh and blood to protect Cambodian territorial integrity. And it will also finish completely a long time-invaded ambition of Thailand. Thailand‘s shameless invasion will be withdrawn with embarrassment because of Preah Vihear temple and Thailand also will face the embarrassment with Asian countries and the world.

Cambodia, which has shown the international countries to be seen as a poor country for once but it has a great civilization without copying from neighboring countries, has a great ability in building Angkor Wat temple and hundreds of temples throughout the country but some of temples was invaded by neighboring country to belong itself shamelessly already. And also Preah Vihear issue is not any political reason of any political party which was lost or won the national election but it is Cambodian territorial integrity and sovereignty we all have to protect!

Preah Vihear Temple

Preah Vihear Temple (Khmer regular script:) , Prasat Preah Vihear; is a Khmer temple situated atop a 525-meter cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains in the Preah Vihear Province of Cambodia
and on the border of Sisaket Province in northeastern Thailand. In 1962, following a serious dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over ownership of the temple, the International Court of Justice in the Hague ruled that it belonged to Cambodia. The adjacent land to the north is under Thailand's control, in contravention of the ICJ's ruling. Affording a view for many kilometers across a plain, Prasat Preah Vihear has the most spectacular setting of all the temples built during the six-century-long Khmer Empire. As a key edifice of the empire's spiritual life, it was supported and modified by successive kings and so bears elements of several architectural styles. Preah Vihear is unusual among Khmer temples in being constructed along north-south axis, rather than having the conventional rectangular plan with orientation toward the east. The temple gives its name to Cambodia's Preah Vihear province, in which it is located, as well as the Khao Phra Wihan National Park in Sisaket Province, Thailand, through which the temple is most easily accessible. On July 7, 2008, Preah Vihear was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

CAMBODIA-TRANSPORT-TRAFFIC-TOLL

WHY TRAFFIC JAM IN PHNOM PHEN IS ALWAYS OCCURRED?
Everyone seems to take it for granted, driving up to 20 or 30 minutes to work over the distance of a few kilometer. There are people who do not accept the traffic jam as a way of life and try to find out why and what can we do? In fact there are people to try to search the web for “reason of traffic jam in Phnom Penh”. It is the reality that most problems do not come from a single reason. It takes combination of reason for thing to go wrong. So, in most case there is no sliver bullet to solve the problem. It takes combination of actions for a solution to problems. Here I am trying to list some of the reasons for traffic jam in Phnom Penh.

Increasing number of vehicles: The government sees it as a sign of economic growth, and some time officials are happy with the traffic jam, because now many people can afford to buy cars and motorbikes. In creasing number of vehicle on the street is an ingredient to the traffic jam crisis.
Street Condition: although the past few years we’ve seen improvement, but it is not fast enough to cope with the growing number of vehicles on the street। Most of the streets are small, even worse residents houses an flat often try to move close to the street for what ever reasons such as “closer to the street mean business competitive advantage”. During rainy season muddy, clumsy road and flooded are the main reasons that people try to avoid these road, thus creating bottle neck at the bigger street.
Unreliable traffic lights: In Phnom Penh traffic light is tool to control the flow of traffic, but often we see the lights are not working। Some time the light its self is not working, sometimes it is because of the power cut। In the worse possible scenario the light went out during the rush hour creating chaos on the junctions.

•Irresponsible maintenance: In the developed countries, street maintenance are done during the night when there is no (or less traffic) in Phnom Penh we often see road maintenance taking place during rush hour. For example, I’ve seen crew of road painter who pain the yellow lane working at 8.30 am the time when people are going to work. Sometimes they dig half of the street at 5.00 pm, when most people return from work, or going out to enjoy city life of Phnom Penh.
Irresponsible drivers: often we see people park their car in the worse possible position creating the traffic jam behind that car, though the car owner never care about the fact that he/she created traffic jam. There are even motorbikes that drive at the wrong side of the road even if they see the street partition clearly. The worse thing is they feel that it is the right to do so. We see people who wanted to turn, they just turn no matter if the can turn or not or no matter if the traffic behind her/him jam or not?
Rules of law: One of my teachers said that in Switzerland people would wait for the green light to cross the street. But in Cambodia people would cross at red light. This indicates that Cambodian people disobey the rules of law, and the law itself is not enforced. Most of the time police are powerless to enforce the law. Police can only stop an old gentle man who rides motorbike, but not gentle men who drive Lexus. Above are the ingredients for traffic crisis in Phnom Penh that I can think of. There are many small reasons; we must look at the big picture. Generally there is no sense of responsibility from both government and people. If the government is responsible they would not allow street maintenance during rush hour. If the people are being responsible they would not drive like that. So Irresponsible is the main reasons for traffic jam. Also, there is no sense in rules of law. If the law is enforced we would not see motorbikes and car crossing the red light or drive on the wrong side of the road. There is always an argument that countries also have traffic jam, why care so much about Cambodia? Yes traffic jams in Other countries, there are long lines of car stopped, but it is because at the very front of the line it is red light, in Cambodia there is not front, because when the traffic slow down driver go in another lane, creating stupid jam at the very front of the line. To some up the main reasons for traffic jam is people are irresponsible; if we only stay in our lane, stop at the red light, traffic would be much better. At the same time the traffic light must be working properly.

Politics in Cambodia

The possibility of Cambodia becoming a respected nation remains on the horizon। Building a new nation from scratch is not easy but at the same time we need leaders who are strong and trusted to do the right thing for the people and for the country. It saddens me to see how many countries have contributed large sum of money to rebuild this nation, only to have it misused by corrupt officials. Cambodian political leaders must work together in order to bring benefits for the people, not their own benefits. Worrying about their position in the government and the amount of money they paid to serve in those positions should not be their main concern. Lying pocket with money that comes from other countries and supposed to go to the reconstruction of school, roads, and jobs is deplorable. Cambodian wants to learn we want our leaders to bring us hope. I don't want to get involved in the politics of my country but I shall state that all men and women who serve in this government should do the right thing for the right reason. This is your country and these are your people, your legacy will be written by what you do now for Cambodia and its people !
